PCB manufacturer Unitech Printed Circuit Board (UPCB) on November 30th announced that the second phase of its new production base that has invested RMB4 billion in Yilan County, Taiwan will be put into trial production. It is said that it will produce at least 2 million pieces of four-layer or any-layer high-density interconnects in a single month in the near future. In addition, Unitech Printed Circuit Board’s plant in Tucheng City can produce 6 million pieces of three-layer and above HDI. It is said that UPCB will become the leading manufacturer of high-density interconnects in Taiwan.
The popularity of smart phones and tablet PCs significantly pushes the demand for HDI. However, most high-end smart phones use three-layer and above HDI. Thus, for most PCB makers, it is difficult for them to enlarge their market share. HDI manufacturer UPCB positively seeks to catch this valuable opportunity and may have a plan of expanding its production in the second half of 2012.
Currently, the monthly production capacity of UPCB’s HDI can meet the demand of 8 million units of smart phones. It is said that UPCB’s production capacity can increase to 10 million units after the second phase of its new production base put into production. Three-layer and above HDI will be increased from 4 million units to 6 million units. UPCB will rank the top of all PCB makers in Taiwan and even become one of the largest manufacturers of HDI in the world.
UPCB said that the second phase of its production base in Yilan County uses the most advanced equipment and its production is highly automated so as to meet customers’ future needs. In addition, the company said that the construction of waste water treatment has been carefully considered and environmental responsibility has been taken into account. Its new plant in Yilan County can at least save 40% of water comparing with the water consumption of its plant in Tucheng City.
