According to the reports of Taiwan’s popular newspaper Digitimes, global panel manufacturers have been facing the downturn of continued losses and capital spending. Industry insiders estimated that the number of the panel orders will decrease by 10% - 15% in the third and fourth quarter of this year.

In 2011, the global demand for LCD (liquid crystal display) TV continues to remain at a low level. As the market share of LCD TV accounts for more than 80% of the whole TV market, the disappointing sales of LCD TV pull down the output value of the entire panel industry. Experts predicted that from 2012 to 2017, the average compound growth rate of the output value of the panel industry will be only 5%, and it could eventually reach about $120 billion.

It is said that because of the uncertain market condition and the gloomy economy, some large panel manufacturing companies have been delaying their plans to set up new plants in China. However, South Korean companies have begun investing in the development of OLED panels. According to the statistics of Digitimes Research, Korea is expected to have $5.2 billion capital expenditure on developing OLED in 2011. And by 2012, this figure is likely to increase to $7.2 billion.

In addition, in terms of AMOLED panel, Samsung Electronics is planning to invest $4.4-$6.2 billion, while LGDisplay plans to invest another $900 million in the development of AMOLED panel.
